There is no doubt that the devastation in Texas due to the now infamous and historic Hurricane Harvey leaves us once again with a feeling of "what can I do?" That is a good thing for it brings out the best in us: generosity, compassion, empathy, love, selflessness. Certainly the great Christian virtues which imitate Christ himself. As tough as this is it may again indicate the reason why God seems to tolerate such suffering - so that a greater good can come forth. When life just goes on as normal day to day, how often do we think of our neighbor? Such events as this Hurricane remind us of the greater good we are called to on a daily basis. We should never need such dramatic reminders. In a stark and undeniable way we are now called to reach out, to think less of ourselves, and in that way to grow in Christian charity.
It's going to take a very long time for these unfortunate folks to get their lives back together but we can make a positive difference. As Catholics, we wan to give through agencies which represent our values and faith.
A few of them are named below:

Catholic Relief Services: www.crs.org
Your local Diocese or Archdiocese
Here in this part of the Country we will be taking up a special collection in the parish next weekend for Hurricane Relief. That will be distributed through Catholic Charities USA by the American Bishops Conference.
Let's continue our prayer and our charity towards all who seek relief. It is what we are about and Who we are about indeed.
