Bear with me this Sunday as I take a lighter personal reflection but share the great wisdom of others as we begin our new Church year and a renewal of faith on this first Sunday of our Advent season. I’ll share a few brief thoughts this time but refer you to Bishop Barron’s reflection: wordonfire.org and go to his “Homilies” resource to find last Sunday's scripture reflection. The video of last Sunday's Mass is still available by clicking on the image of our Church to the right with our occasional celebrant Fr. Ray who offers some rich reflections in his homily
As was the earlier season of Lent and Easter seems this season of Advent and Christmas will likewise be both a mix of faith and fear in the later time of 2020.
What a trial we have undergone and how much we have learned this year about trust, patience, hope, the importance of community, finding God in darkness, the scandal of violence and division, the weight of worry and the freedom of faith. Advent is a season of hopeful longing for the coming of a savior - one to set us free. I think many of us, if our hearts are open, can maybe admit that so many of our emotions and experiences may well be good lessons for this time of year in which we hope for the Savior to come and free us. They have been a good preparation to welcome the Saviors coming to a people who walked in darkness
This walk in darkness both nature’s darkness this early winter and the dark fear of threats to our good health and safety. Let us be guided by faith not fear as we journey forward together.
Be watchful and ready!
Fr Tim
