Into the Desert we go: the what and the where

"Repent, and believe in the Gospel."

It is that time of year once again when we step back, reconsider our lives in light of the Gospel of Christ, simplify our daily living, detach from un-Godlike attachments so that we may prepare for the glory of Easter.  It is a time for the Church to gather around our Elect in support and prayer: those preparing for the Easter sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist. This is a six week journey of prayer, reflection, a “down time” for us all.

What should I do?

Pray, fast from all that distracts from God, and do works of charity:

Where should I go?

Into the desert with Jesus to find strength, resistance to evil, and to prepare to live more fully the Gospel of Jesus Christ:

First Sunday of Lent Scriptures: http://usccb.org/bible/readings/021713.cfm

Let us pray:
O God, who are moved by acts of humility
and respond with forgiveness to works of penance,
lend your merciful ear to our prayers
and in your kindness pour out the grace of your  + blessing
on your servants who are marked with these ashes,
that, as they follow the Lenten observances,
they may be worthy to come with minds made pure
to celebrated the paschal Mystery of your Son.
Who lives and reigns for ever and ever. Amen
